Information Security Officer

The data processing systems including the entire IT infrastructure (servers, networks, workstation PCs, etc.) and the data stocks are part of the company-critical infrastructure. The protection of these business-critical IT infrastructures and data assets against threats of all kinds, for example from malware such as computer viruses, Trojans, etc., espionage, misuse and incorrect operation, is of great importance for a company. It is therefore very important for the company to regulate the safe and appropriate handling of all types of information technology and thus protect the company from damage.

As an information security officer, I help to ensure the necessary protection of security goals and to optimize the effort required to protect the basic criteria of “availability, confidentiality, authenticity, auditability and integrity”.

Reasons for appointing me as an information security officer could be:

  • harmonization and optimization of practices,
  • Elimination of conflicting responsibilities and relationships,
  • weighing up conflicting goals,
  • formalization of informal systems,
  • Reduction of duplication of work and thus costs,
  • Reducing risks and increasing profitability,
  • Shifting focus to corporate goals,
  • creating consistency,
  • improving communication,
  • promoting training and awareness,
  • Examination of business feasibility/implementation/control of regulatory requirements,
  • Examination and control of business feasibility to achieve ISO certification or industry-specific standards (national and international),
  • Examination of the implementation of best practices/good practices in an industry-specific context.

Benefits of a managed information security level can include:

  • Reducing information security risks and minimizing the risk of information security breaches,
  • Protection of values and personal information, especially against data loss,
  • Creating a competitive advantage,
  • business advantages,
  • Improving reputation and strengthening customer trust and
  • Protecting the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information,
  • Option for international certifications,

After creating and implementing an information security management system (ISMS) within an organization, I align my activities as an information security officer with its needs and goals, security requirements, organizational processes, and any size and structure of the organization.
